A LITTLE HISTORY ON THE 53RD (1986-87) DUCK STAMP ARTIST

Burton E. Moore, Jr. Was born in Columbia, South Carolina, in 1945.   A former Marine Corps captain, he is a self-taught artist and has made his living with his work since 1977.  He is known nationally for outdoor scenes featuring sporting dogs, decoys, and waterfowl.  His other honors include South Carolina Wildlife Federation Artist of the Year.  Mr. Moore's works have been shown in galleries and at major exhibits throughout the nation.  These include the Smithsonian Institution, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition, the Easton Waterfowl Festival, and the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Birds in Art Exhibitions.   A life sponsor of Ducks Unlimited, Mr. Moore resides in Charleston, South Carolina.

--------------------THE ART--------------------

Fulvous Whistling Duck was done as an acrylic-on- Masonite. The print is acrylic on Masonite, using fade-resistant inks on 100% acid rag stock. The separation negative maker and the printer was Mueller-Krus. It was hand signed and numbered in pencil. The edition was 16,310 regular signed and numbered prints and 4,670 with 24 caret gold plated medallions.  The  The image size is 6-1/2" x 9".  The medallion is full struck 2 3/32"x1-5/16"

Fulvous Whistling Duck…Engraved by the Federal Bureau of Engraving from the original artwork. Printed in full color. The stamp sold for seven dollars and fifty cents. Postal records show 1,794,448 stamps sold. First day of sale was July 1, 1986.
